Aunt Allllllllllison!

We tried hard to get Henry to say Aunt Allison this past week, but alas, could not. But, we had a really FUN weekend visiting in Cincinnati! Henry really loved spending time with his aunt, and he perfected his walking skills as well. Now, he takes a really long walk of 20-30 at a time, rather than just 5-8 steps. He's a walking champ. We had fun shopping, eating, and playing in Allison's apartment!
Peering out the window at the rain, longing to go outside and play.
Rainy days means mountain climbing!
Mom, I'm pretty tired from all this play. Could I please go to bed?

Although the weather was rainy the whole week, we managed to find some fun things out of the house. While dad recruited, and Aunt Allison worked, Henry and I took a field trip to the aquarium, where waved hi to the fishys, walked through a rain forest, got scared by some loud birds, waved hi to the scuba divers cleaning the tanks, and saw them feeding the sharks. We DID NOT touch sharks however. Mom's not brave enough, maybe when Henry is a bigger boy.

Looking through the tunnel at the sharks swimming overhead.

Eye to eye with the frogs!

Completely surrounded by fish.

What's the best snack to bring to the aquarium? Rainbow Goldfish, of course!

We also heard about a Children's Museum, and took a trip to see that too. Totally worth it, and we'll be going back, definitely as Henry gets older. They had some really cool exhibits for older kids, but a whole entire area devoted to kids four and under. Complete with a sand table, books and chairs, apple picking, climbing toys, fire engines, grocery shopping, and so much room to walk and play, we had a blast with non stop action.

And after lunch, the excitement continued with the SPLASH ZONE! Henry looked darling in his little blue smock with the sleeves rolled up and long enough to touch his shoes. He loved splashing in the water, watching the older kids make the machines turn using water, and getting wet. And we commemorated the event with a bath toy with a series of machines that you can rearrange to make the water move!
Yay, Aunt Allison's house!!!

Columbus

Can we please go out and play?

Last week, we traveled with Gabe to Columbus to stay with our friends and see their new baby! Henry was mildly interested in playing with the baby, got lots of licky kisses from the dog, and got to check out the Columbus zoo. But I think he had the most fun exploring a new house. He did well with the traveling on the way out, a 4.5 hour car drive and earned himself an A+. The way back was a little more difficult, but we made it. Big fan of the portable DVD player for long car rides. We weren't sure if it would help, but it did distract him for a little bit. Monica and I had fun shopping, hanging out and playing with the kids. We loved meeting Justin; He was just starting to bring his legs up for rolling over and is so sweet. Thanks Kowalskis!

Henry did a lot of finger sucking and lovey holding on the drive in

Hi Baby Justin!
ooooo, baby
taking a stroll by the river with mom
come on Jusin, don't just lay there, we've got things to see
watch out justin, Henry monster's coming through!
what a cute picture of both boys!

At the Columbus Zoo, which is rated the number one zoo in the country:
A baby elephant only five months old. Too cute!

Just about the same size, but very different weights, thankfully
Wake up, tiger!
Henry really likes flamingos, because they are bright. He likes them at our zoo too.

Fish tanks are always interesting
And after a long day at the zoo, both boys asleep in the car on the way home

the boys

Cheer, Cheer for Old Notre Dame
Wake up the echoes cheering her nameSend a volley cheer on high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
What though the odds be great or small
Old Notre Dame will win overall

While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory!

another day of firsts

Came home to these First Day of School Treats. I have the best husband in the entire world!

First day for me at school - I spent last weekend planning and printing out all of my materials, nicely organizing them in a new binder and updating my planner. Last night, I put them all in my teaching bag and packed lunches for me and Henry. This morning, I loaded up the car. Pulled up to school this afternoon - AND FORGOT MY BAG! Yikes, what a start to my first day teaching. Luckily, I was able to hand write everything I needed and the teaching went well. The kids were all on their best behavior and we were pleased with the lessons we co-taught. My first class were my old students, so that made me feel better, but now two grades older.

The thought of leaving Henry left me pretty emotional the past few days, since it will be the first time he is with a babysitter during the day. And although he wasn't actually crying when I left, knowing that he would be made me sad. But, he did really well, took a good nap, ate his lunch and played with his friends. And I was so excited to pick him up!! And tonight for dessert? A family treat for ice cream!! For Henry doing so well!

We're buying...

A HOUSE!!!!

We agreed on a price late last night, and we're really excited. Gabe and I both looked at each other after notifying the real estate agent and asked, "did we just buy a house?" and responding, "I think we did!" It is a little nerve wracking making such a big purchase, but we are really happy with the house that we chose. And we're really excited about having our own place and getting out of the rental we're in now. Huge kitchen, finished basement, nice fenced in back yard for Henry to play, on a cul-de-sac, move-in ready, and more!

We're also pretty surprised with ourselves (and a little proud too) about how much motivation we kept up in looking for a house (we looked at over 45!) and securing all the necessary steps. There's a lot more to go too, though, since we're closing next month. For us procrastinating-on-big-important-decisions people, we really stayed focused and followed through, which was key.

We'll post pictures of the inside once we get in and feel settled a bit.
